Whilst we cannot in any way guarantee that a temporary position will lead to a full-time role, many temporary positions do have the potential to become full time if the client is adequately impressed with the candidate's work skills or ethics. What is temp work?
As a busy London recruitment agency, we work with a portfolio of clients – meeting any needs they may have. As such, we regularly get asked to find candidates to fill a range of different roles and positions within the business.
These positions can be full-time, for instance if an employee leaves and needs replacing. Sometimes the positions are part-time, perhaps because the business is trying something new or an employee needs help to manage a workload. Often, however, our clients are seeking temporary workers, usually because they need help with a backlog, require more staff over a busy period or have a specific task that they need help with (such as an event.)
How long is a temporary job?
Unfortunately there is no one answer – it depends entirely on our clients' needs. Some of the assignments last half a day and others are ongoing, lasting more than 12 months. We make it very clear how long a position is likely to last prior to confirming any temporary work with our candidates.
What do I need to do temp work?
In order to secure temp work we expect a basic level of computer skill, such as typing 50 words per minute or faster and having strong MS Office skills. We typically place our candidates in environments where they are likely to succeed – for those who are concerned about their lack of office related skills, our temp positions are often a great way to acquire new skills by providing cover for junior secretaries and administrators. All temporary positions require a valid UK work visa.
